Where can a drone fly in Dallas-Fort Worth?

Almost anywhere in the metro, with FAA authorization near the airports. DFW International and Dallas Love Field sit under Class B airspace, and both are LAANC-enabled, so a pilot flying in most suburbs gets near-real-time authorization through an FAA-approved app. Ten smaller towered airports add Class D rings of about four and a half miles. Where the FAA facility map sets a low ceiling, the pilot files 72 hours ahead.

The Class D airports are Fort Worth Alliance, Fort Worth Meacham, Addison, Arlington Municipal, Dallas Executive, Denton Enterprise, Grand Prairie Municipal, McKinney National and Fort Worth Spinks, plus the naval air station at Fort Worth JRB. Your pilot requests the authorization, not you. When you type an address on the booking form, we tell you if one of these airports is likely close and ask for a window of three days or more.

On game days a temporary flight restriction covers a three mile ring around AT&T Stadium and Globe Life Field in Arlington, from an hour before to an hour after the event, so a pilot plans around it. Texas law (Government Code chapter 423) allows aerial images of private property with the consent of the owner or occupant, which is why the booking form asks you to confirm you own, lease or represent the property. Pilots keep the camera on your property, not the neighbors.

When is the best time to book in Dallas-Fort Worth?

Any month. North Texas has flying weather all year; the limits are sustained wind over 20 mph, rain and visibility under three miles, and the windiest days arrive with spring fronts. Listing season runs from late March to June. Hail season runs April to August, roof checks book fastest in the days after a storm, and July and August afternoons are hot enough that pilots prefer morning windows.

The metro is the largest housing market in the country by volume: 91,742 homes sold and 131,959 new listings in 2025 according to Redfin's metro tracker. Texas was also the largest hail-claim state in 2025, with State Farm alone paying $1.4 billion in the state. Roughly 4,900 Part 107 holders list a releasable address in the metro in the FAA's October 2026 airmen file, the most of any US metro; the true number is higher because many pilots withhold their address.

How does booking work?

  1. Pick a package

Choose Aerial Photos, Aerial Video, the Listing Bundle or a Roof Check. The price and the pilot payout are printed next to each package.

  2. Give the address and a window

We check the address against the airport table and tell you how many verified pilots cover it. Pick an earliest and a latest day; daylight only.

  3. A pilot nearby accepts

You pay through a Stripe payment page only after a pilot has taken the job. A person at Astral Pic confirms the payment, usually within a few hours.

  4. Files on a private page

Your photos and video arrive within 48 hours of the flight. Approve them or ask for changes once; your pilot is paid after you approve.

Dallas-Fort Worth questions

Can the pilot take off inside a master-planned community or HOA?

Usually yes, from your own lot. An HOA board can set rules for takeoff and landing from common areas, pools and playgrounds, and can ask a vendor for proof of insurance, but it cannot close the airspace above the neighborhood; that is federal. Your pilot launches from the property you booked, or from public land with permission, never from a neighbor's lot or a common area without consent. If a common area is the only option, tell the HOA before the flight.

Will my brokerage accept the pilot's insurance?

Most real estate clients ask for $1 million of liability cover per occurrence, and that is the minimum every Astral Pic pilot showed us on a certificate of insurance. Larger brokerages and developers sometimes ask for $2 million or for the brokerage to be named as an additional insured. Ask your pilot through the job messages before the flight; some carriers add an additional insured at no charge. Astral Pic does not carry a policy of its own.

How fast can I get a roof check after a hail storm?

As fast as a pilot accepts, and you pay nothing until one does. After a large storm many roofs need checks at once and pilots' days fill, so give a window of three days and book the day of the storm if you can. A Roof Check is 30 to 50 photos of every slope, ridge, valley and penetration plus a short written note from the pilot. It is not an adjuster's report or a stamped inspection; share it with your roofer or your insurer as photo evidence.
