What does Astral Pic pay in Dallas-Fort Worth?

A fixed payout per package, printed next to the customer price on every surface. Astral Pic sends you paid flights near your base: aerial photos, listing videos and roof checks with the payout printed on the offer before you accept. You see the pay, the distance and the shot list first. The platform fee is 20% of the customer price at launch, and the payout is what is left, rounded to the dollar.

Payment reaches you within 7 days of approval. Approval happens when the customer approves the files, or 48 hours after delivery if they say nothing. Payouts go through Stripe; after verification we email you a Stripe link to set up your account, and Stripe collects your tax identity there. Astral Pic never stores bank details or tax forms. We may change the fee with 30 days' written notice; the planned step is 25% once the weekly fill rate in a metro passes 90% for four weeks, and the pilot agreement says so. No travel fees, no add-ons and no rush pricing at launch. See the full price list.

How much work is there in Dallas-Fort Worth?

More property than any metro in the country, and no promise of volume from us yet. Dallas-Fort Worth recorded 91,742 homes sold and 131,959 new listings in 2025 in Redfin's metro tracker, the highest of any US metro, and 52% of Realtors reported using drone photography or video in the 2025 NAR technology survey. Texas was the largest hail-claim state in 2025, with State Farm alone paying $1.4 billion, and roof checks follow every spring storm from April to August.

The supply side is deep too: roughly 4,900 Part 107 holders list a releasable address in the metro in the FAA's October 2026 airmen file, the most of any US metro. That is why we start here, and why we are honest that the first jobs on the board will be few. New jobs appear on your dashboard while it is open; email and text alerts are coming. There is no acceptance score and no penalty for leaving the page closed.

Where will you fly?

Inside the radius you set, 10 to 50 miles from your base. Jobs show the city, the first three digits of the ZIP code and the distance from your base before you accept; the exact address appears once you have the job. DFW International and Love Field are Class B with LAANC, and ten towered fields add Class D rings, so most suburbs are near-real-time authorizations; where the facility map is low you file a further-coordination request 72 hours ahead. You get the authorization yourself and enter the reference on the go/no-go checklist before you fly. Every customer confirms at booking that they own, lease or represent the property, which satisfies the consent exception in Texas Government Code chapter 423.

What do you need to apply?

Four things, all of which you already have if you fly commercially today. You use your own aircraft and your own insurance, keep your copyright under the footage license, and run your own business: you choose your jobs, hours and radius, and you can decline anything with no penalty.

  • A current Part 107 certificate

With the initial knowledge test or the FAA recurrent training (ALC-677) completed within the last 24 calendar months. You upload the certificate and the completion certificate. Not certified yet? Start with our free drone license course.

  • A registered drone with Remote ID

Registered under Part 107 and broadcasting Remote ID, standard or module. You upload a photo of the registration label on the airframe.

  • $1 million liability insurance

An annual policy or on-demand cover, shown on a certificate of insurance with the limit and the expiry date. You keep it current while you accept jobs.

  • Your own aircraft and editing

You fly your own equipment and upload edited stills and clips to the shot list within 24 hours of the flight. A phone number the customer can reach on the day.

How does verification work?

A person at Astral Pic reads your documents once, usually within one business day. We check the Part 107 certificate image and look up your name in the FAA Airmen Inquiry, check the recency date, read the insurance certificate for the limit and the expiry, and match the registration label photo to the aircraft you listed. Then you are visible to customers in Dallas-Fort Worth and jobs inside your radius appear on your board.

We do not run identity checks or any other screening, and we do not claim to. If something is missing you see "We need one more thing" with a note, fix it and resubmit. Your insurance and recency dates are kept on file; the dashboard warns you 30 days before either one lapses and blocks new accepts after it does, until an updated certificate has been checked.

How do jobs reach you?

An open board, first to accept wins. Each job shows the package, the city and ZIP prefix, the distance from your base, the window, your payout, an airspace flag and the shot list. Accept it and the address, access notes and the customer's phone appear. Decline anything, for any reason, and the customer never sees it. If you accept and then cannot make it, release the job and it goes back on the board; weather and airspace releases carry no mark, schedule and other releases do.

The customer pays through Stripe after you accept, a person at Astral Pic confirms the payment, usually within a few hours, and you fly only after that. You run the go/no-go checklist on the dashboard, upload the files, and deliver. The customer approves or asks for one round of changes within 48 hours; then your payout is due.

Pilot questions

What does insurance cost, and where do I get it?

Annual liability-only policies at the $1 million level typically run $500 to $1,200 a year from brokers and insurers that specialize in drones, and hourly on-demand coverage exists from app-based providers if you fly a few jobs a month. Either works for Astral Pic as long as the certificate shows the limit and the expiry and it is in force on the day. Some carriers add a client as an additional insured at no extra charge, which brokerages sometimes ask for.

How are taxes handled?

You are an independent business, not an employee. Astral Pic pays your payouts through Stripe, and Stripe collects your tax identity when you set up your payout account; we never store a W-9, a Social Security number or bank details. You keep your own records of income and expenses. We do not give tax advice, so ask a preparer about what applies to you.

Am I tied to Astral Pic?

No. You can work for anyone else, keep your own clients, decline every job we show you and set your own hours and radius. There is no acceptance rate, no ranking and no minimum. You keep the copyright to your footage and grant the customer a license to use it; the pilot agreement spells out the license, the payment timing and the 30-day notice on any fee change.
